NYCC: Ghostbusters to Bust Ghosts in France, Italy in New IDW Series

Announced at New York Comic Con, we guess, since we read about it in NYCC EXXXCLUSIVE interview on CBR, IDW is releasing a new Ghostbusters series called Ghostbusters International. The series will see the Ghostbusters travel to France and Italy to bust ghosts. Writer Erik Burnham explained the concept to CBR:

We have ideas for visits to so many countries, but we're starting out with Italy and France. The ghosts they face will be more... I guess "standard" would be the best way to put it, insofar as they aren't godlike beings intent on destruction. In Italy, near Venice, the island of Poveglia is supposed to be one of the most haunted in the world. And Paris has tons of potential ghost lore to choose from. I promise only that I won't send the team to the Eiffel Tower.

Burnham pointed out that the series would have some humorous moments, such as when the Ghostbusters travel to a well-known French cafe to track down a spirit, only to learn that it was a false alarm caused by "really stinky cheese." In Italy, the team encounter cast members of MTV's The Jersey Shore filming a reunion show, but they decide to blast them with their proton packs anyway - a completely understandable development.

Meanwhile, artist Dan Schoening did his best to act like Dan Aykroyd's plans for inter-dimensional Ghostbusters mega-movie franchises aren't totally crazy:

I feel it's more of a natural step, as ghosts are everywhere and not just in NYC. Other worldly cultures are so rich in haunted tales and apparitions, it would be a shame not to visit them in the comics. I know Dan's idea also involved space and other dimensions, and it would be great to visit those more as well.

Schoening then made eye contact with CBR interviewer TJ Dietsch and twirled his finger in a circular motion next to his ear while whistling, "cuckoo, cuckoo." Look for Ghostbusters International in stores in January.
