Why was Man of Steel such a terrible movie? We all know it's terrible, and we all know which parts we don't like the most - Pa Kent scolding Clark for saving a busload of schoolchildren, Superman not saving his father's life for fear of revealing his secret identity, the neck-snapping, Superman making out with Lois in the ruins of Metropolis after not even making an effort to prevent the wanton destruction - but we didn't really understand why someone would make such a terrible movie.
In an interview with The Hollywood reporter, Man of Steel and Batman v. Superman director Zack Snyder reveals:
I have been working on The Fountainhead. I've always felt like The Fountainhead was such a thesis on the creative process and what it is to create something. Warner Bros. owns [Ayn Rand's] script and I've just been working on that a little bit.
Zack Snyder is making a movie about Ayn Rand's book, The Fountainhead? Ooooooh! Man of Steel is... an Objectivist take on Superman! Now it all makes sense.
Look for Rand of Steel in bargain DVD bins sometime in the next decade.
