Dark Knight III Lateness Continues, Issue #6 Canceled, Will (Probably) Be Resolicited

Maybe they should have had Frank Miller write and draw the thing after all!

Following up on a February report that Dark Knight III: The Master Race, the comic book advertised as co-written by Frank Miller (despite the fact that he had nothing to do with it) and slated to save DC from falling sales, would be delayed, with several issues being pushed back, a Newsarama report notes that Dark Knight III #6, originally solicited for June 16th, has been removed from the schedule and will be resolicited at a later date. The news doesn't come as a surprise, because, well, DC, but also because DC recently provoked a reset of the Has DC Done Something Stupid Today counter by being so disorganized about their line-wide not-a-reboot reboot event, #Rebirth, that they couldn't even print their own preview magazines before the final order cutoff. Lateness in comics is barely a news story, as last year Marvel's Secret Wars was delayed so long that the final issue didn't come out until months after line-wide reboot it led up to, for multiple reasons including a dog eating Esad Ribic's artwork, Jon Stewart hitting Tom Brevoort with a steel chair, and Axel Alonso tossing the comic into a portal to an alternate dimension.

Still, one might think that DC could manage to publish one single comic, not tied into any other books, planned long in advance, and advertised as a super big fucking deal on time. But if one thought that, one would be fucking wrong, because comics publishers consider themselves under no obligation to serve comic book readers at all. All that matters is publicity and variant cover sales, and DC has bigger fish to fry now with their #Rebirth reboot. So if you were one of the approximately zero people who were excited about a third Dark Knight story, that's just too bad for you, because you'll get it when DC feels like publishing it, if they ever finish it at all (see: Miller's last DC project, All-Star Batman and Robin the Boy Wonder).

At press time, DC Co-Publishers Dan Didio and Jim Lee has hastily scrapped plans to announce the delays in a skit pretending they were operating on "cautious publisher" time after seeing how well that worked out for Hillary Clinton. We'll keep you updated.
