Geoff Johns Finally Addresses Elephant in Room at DC

And top comics media sites are first on the scene to report.

After nearly two weeks of failing to respond to accusations that the company mishandled multiple sexual harassment allegations, a DC Comics executive has finally decided to address a longstanding question about the company. What? No, he didn't talk about sexual harassment. Instead he revealed that DC's upcoming #Rebirth super-mega-reboot event is not "a brand or a marketing tool" but rather about "the intrinsic values of what DC comic books and its universe stand for." In an essay appearing in the back of this week's DC Comics titles, DC Chief Creative Officer Geoff "Jeff" Johns did not clarify whether the intrinsic values of what DC comics and its universe stand for included appropriately responding to sexual harassment complaints and taking action to create a safe and comfortable working environment for all of its employees.

News of Johns' highly anticipated response comes from popular mainstream comic book news and top five listicle site Newsarama, breaking on the same day the essay was released. This puts the score of the contest of covering important topics in comics for mainstream comic book media vs. social media at 1 to 1, since Newsarama and similarly-sized websites were a little bit slow on reporting on the sexual harassment and mishandling allegations being made on Twitter. Commenting on the dedication to stay on top of the most important stories, such as today's Geoff Johns sales pitch, writer Newsarama Staff commented, "There are many reasons for comic book media to bring readers up to date coverage of the important but difficult issues facing the comics industry today, like whether or not Geoff Johns thinks people should buy Rebirth. In fact, I can name five of them for you right now. Just click on this link to start the slideshow."
