Valiant comics has announced their annual Valiant Summit. The even will take place on May 17th in the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater in New York City. The theater, founded by comedy legends Amy Poehler, Matt Besser, Matt Walsh, and Ian Roberts, has long been home to some of the best improvisational comedy, but it has never been known for comic books.

Dinesh Shamdasani, CEO and Chief Creative Office of Valiant, said the idea came to him after participating in some entry level improv courses. "It was really great," said Shamdasani, "It really built up some cohesion. Great team building exercise and a lot of fun."

Shamdasani, with the assistance of Editor-in-Chief Warren Simons and Marketing Director Hunter Gorrison, will be leading a live streamed panel announcing upcoming comics through improvised scenes. The Outhouse was allowed to sit in and report on Valiant's improv rehearsal:

Dinesh Shamdasani and Warren Simmons stand before an empty auditorium, getting a feel for the stage. Hunter Gorrison stands to the side with a buzzer. Shamdasani explains the game to the imaginary crowd.

"Now we're going to play a game called New Choice. The ways this game works is that Warren and I will act out a scene, and whenever we say something that Hunter doesn't like he'll press his buzzer and say..."

"New choice!" cries Hunter Gorrison.

Shamdasani continued, "We will then have to say something else, and the scene will continue with the new choice."

Simmons steps forward and speaks to the room, "What we need from you is a suggestion of a Valiant title that you'd like to hear more about. Any title at all." Warren lets the silence hang before crying out, "War Mother! Great suggestion."

Simmons and Shamdasani hang their heads for a moment to signify that they are beginning a scene.

"Hey, Dinesh. How've you been?" Simmons says with a smile.

"Warren! Hey. I've been well. Just busy working." Shamdasani responds.

"Really? What have you been working on?" Simmons asks.

Shamdasani spreads a big smile across his face and says, "A new book called War Mother-"

BURRRZZZ

"New choice!" yells Gorrison.

Shamdasani then breaks character and with a scowl on his face turns to Gorrison. "Dammit, Hunter! How many times have I told you? You can't 'new choice' the give!"

I later leave while the men argue over who is and isn't "Yes and"ing enough. The official press release is attached below.
