Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the standalone Star Wars film that will tell the story of the effort to retrieve the Death Star I plans, comes out in December and we still don't know much about it. While we finally got a teaser trailer last month that gave us the lead character's name, Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones), we only saw glimpses of the rest of the cast. Well, if the sample pages from the Edelweiss listing is accurate, we may have a lot more we know about the movie.
The listing is for a future publication titled "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story: The Official Visual Story Guide" by Media Lab Books, which according to Amazon, should be out early next year. The sample pages at Edelweiss do appear to be somewhat rough (if legitimate), often displaying different art styles and has what would appear to be placeholder text. If we are to take the content as real, then here's a couple of tidbits. Let's start with the cover:
Here we get a shot of the team that will try to get those Death Star I plans. We get our first good look at the Enforcer Droid K-250 which we only see partial glimpses of in the teaser trailer. This character is believed to be voiced by Alan Tudyk. They also show woo hoo! Y-Wings. Important note on that cover: "NOT FINAL".
Our first sample page lists our main protagonists, first revealed at 2015's D23 Expo. We already are familiar with Jyn, but now we have a possible name for the character Diego Luna plays: Captain Cassian Andor. We also get a name for Jiang Wen's character, the freelance assassin Baze. K-250 gets a listing as well as Bodhi Rook, played by Riz Ahmed. Next up is an alien we haven't seen before, Pao, followed by Donnie Yen as Chirrut, and finally another new alien: Bistan.
This sample page is an odd one. It appears to show the T-70 X-Wings from The Force Awakens instead of the T-65 model from this era of Star Wars. May just be a placeholder, it's unclear. The T-70s do look a lot like painter Ralph McQuarrie's X-Wing design though.
This page gives name to Ben Mendelsohn's character: Director Krennic. Now you know what to call yourself when you cosplay the caped baddie. We also get re-confirmation that the new black Stormtroopers are called Death Troopers, and we see the good 'ol Stormtroopers listed too. Is Darth Vader's image there a hint of his appearance in the movie too?
Here's a vehicle new to Star Wars, some sort of Imperial hover tank. You could see this guy in the teaser trailer as well. Are those new Stormtrooper designs in the tank?
Look! We got the Death Star plans! We're heroes!
Here's what appears to be a new Imperial ship, the T.I.E. Striker. It's a very plain rendering compared to the Death Star.
This page serves up a new Rebel Alliance starfighter, the U-Wing. Interesting if accurate.
Were you excited when you saw the All Terrain Armored Transports (AT-ATs) in the teaser trailer? Well you were wrong to be! Well, maybe. According the drawing, what you saw may have been AT-ACTs instead. We have no idea what that stands for.
Here's another look at the K-250 Enforcer Droid.
The final sample page gives us another look at the heroes and villains of Rogue One. We can also see another Stormtrooper design in the group. Interestingly Forest Whitaker (who we saw in the teaser) and Mads Mikkelsen (whose role we do know) were not featured on these sample pages.
Does this information make you more/less interested in Rogue One? We'll see how much of it is true when Rogue One infiltrates theaters on December 16.
