Comics Industry Luminary Sana Amanat to Participate in White House Women's Summit

The United State of Women summit can surely benefit from the wisdom of the comics industry.

According to a report from Newsarama, Marvel Editor Supreme Sana Amanat has been invited to President Obama's United State of Women Summit at the White House today. "It's an unbelievable honor to be invited to participate in one of the most influential summits devoted to gender equality," Amanat said of the event, which can be livestreamed here. "I am thrilled to represent Marvel in a conversation devoted to the media's role in a more inclusive future."

That's a more inclusive role, according to Bleeding Cool's most recent gendercrunching article, up to 18.7 percent of employees who are women, just like Marvel's creative credits on its comics!!! That would be an inclusive future indeed.

Of course, this isn't Amanat's first visit to Washington. Amanat introduced the president at a White House event for Women's History Month back in March. One of the most powerful and successful women in an industry plagued by statistically abysmal inclusion and multiple shameful ongoing sexual harassment scandals, and co-creator of rare successful new character Ms. Marvel, Amanat is an excellent choice to join the White House summit. But you wouldn't really know that from the Newsarama article headlined "MARVEL Takes Part In WHITE HOUSE Women's Summit," in which reporter George R. R. Marston simply notes that Amanat is known for her "work on numerous Marvel titles including helping co-create the current Ms. Marvel." Confidence in the ability of the comic book industry to set an example for the country when it comes to inclusion is similarly diminished by the fact that the comic book media only began publishing reports announcing Amanat was invited to the event this morning... the day of the event!

Perhaps after meeting with Amanat at the summit and hearing about the comic book industry, the attendees will gather en masse and storm the comic book industry with gasoline and torches, burning it to the ground and starting over. Well, we can only hope.
