The carnage continues in 2017

Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin in Japan) is a popular manga series started in 2009, that spawned a very popular anime series in 2013. The series takes place in a land where humans live in walled cities which guard against giant human-eating Titans. The story focuses on a survey corps that faces the Titans (and the mysteries surrounding them) after the day one of the walls fell.

The manga and anime series made its way West, the manga published in 2012 by Kodansha USA and the anime streamed same day as Japan with English subtitles on Crunchyroll and Funimation. The series gained a wider audience when it was airedonCartoon Network's Toonami/Adult Swim block dubbed in English (Attack on Titan even crossed over into the Marvel Universe and had a western art book published).

The end of the Attack on Titan anime series the mystery of the Titans was still unresolved and showed another city wall crumbling, promising a season two. Indeed, a season two was announced to start in 2016 on the day the live-action version premiered in Japan. Things have been relatively quiet about the second season since then though.

It looks like the Titans were particularly troublesome. It has been confirmed that a second season for the anime is coming, not in 2016, but pushed back to Spring 2017. The (surviving) characters' Japanese voice cast and crew will be returning for the new season.

A new key visual was revealed for season two as well as the Spring date via the official anime Twitter account:

No announcement yet for a western release, but with the show's popularity we'd guess more Titans will be invading our shores too.
