Production Updates On 'Thor: Ragnarok' & 'Star Wars: Episode VIII' (Updated)

One begins, the other is slated to end.

While we await the Disney blockbusters coming later this year from Marvel (Doctor Strange) and Lucasfilm (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), the movie-making engines for both keep on churning. There is a tiny bit of a status update from both Marvel and Lucasfilm for movies beyond this year, namely Thor: Ragnarok and Star Wars: Episode VIII (not likely its final title).

We got an idea that the filming for Thor: Ragnarok would start soon because local news in Australia spotted sets from the movie being built at the end of June.

Not long after, on July 3rd (July 4th in Australia) filing began on Thor: Ragnarok as reported by Mavel Studios co-president Louis D'Esposito:

Not much is know about Thor: Ragnarok yet though we knowHulk (Mark Ruffalo) will be making an appearance along with Hela (Cate Blanchett), Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Skurge (Karl Urban), and Grandmaster (Jeff Goldblum). Of cousre there are always rumors of what we can expect… It's probably too early in production for Thor: Ragnarok to make it to San Diego Comic-Con like Doctor Strange and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2will, but one can always hope. Thor: Ragnarok strikes theaters November 3, 2017.

Not a beginning, but an ending. We also now know when Star Wars: Episode VIII will wrap filming. Mark Hamill, that silent (but rascally) Jedi from Star Wars: The Force Awakens, spilled the beans on Twitter:

So July 22 ends principal photography on Star Wars: Episode VIII, which started back in February. Episode VIII will bring back (almost all of) the cast from The Force Awakens with newcomers Benicio Del Toro, Laura Dern, and a new lead character played by Kelly Marie Tran. Not much beyond the tone of the movie has been revealed yet (darker, intimate), not even its gosh-darned final title! Perhaps we'll be getting some hints though, not so much at Sand Diego Comic-Con, but at Star Wars Celebration Europe 2016. Episode VIII director Rian Johnson will be part of the "Future Filmmaker Discussion" panel on July 17 so that one might be one to pay attention to. Star Wars: Episode VIII will land in theaters December 15, 2017.

Updated 07/22/2016:

It looks like the 'ol Jedi Master wasn't lying. Principal photography on Star Wars: Episode VIII has officially wrapped principal photography. Director Rian Johnson confirmed this via the @starwars Twitter account:

So now we wait. Come on guys, can't we at least get a title? A teaser trailer? Pretty please?
