Is Legendary Entertainment Close to Capturing The 'Pokémon' Live-Action License?

They may need to upgrade their balls

Source: Pokemon Movie Deal? 'Warcraft' Producer Legendary Near Pact

Back in April, word spread around the internet that a live-action Pokémon movie would potentially be hitting theater screens. At the time, it was being said three companies were battling it out for the license: Warner Bros., Sony, and the upstart Legendary Entertainment.

Well, it looks like the upstart may have the upper hand as Deadline is reporting that Legendary is near a pact to seal that deal. However the author of the article Mike Fleming Jr. says:

"Details are scant at this point, and no deal has been closed, but I am persuaded that it’s headed that way."

With the videogame celebrating its 20th anniversary, it's mobile game Pokémon Go tearing up the charts and making news, and a new 3DS game on the way (plus trademark-owner Nintendo showing an interest in expanding its IP to other venues), it seems like a good time to nab the movie license.

Legendary also has the license to both Godzilla and King Kong, with a crossover movie in the works. They also have the license to the kaiju versus giant robot movie Pacific Rim and its upcoming sequel. It's no secret that Guillermo Del Toro would like to see his mecha go toe to (tiny) toe with Godzilla… Would it be too much of a stretch to see Godzilla vs. King Kong vs. Jaeger vs. Pokémon?

You know you want to see that happen!

We'll see if Legendary can catch this one…
