Charlie Hunnam Will Not Dive Back into the Reach for 'Pacific Rim 2'

The actor who starred in the original film confirmed he will not be involved in the sequel due to scheduling conflicts.

Well this is a bummer.

During SDCC, Charlie Hunnam was on hand to promote his new King Arthur movie (directed by Guy Ritchie aka probably the most disappointing trailer from the convention. You judge for yourself here), and was asked by Yahoo Movies! about reprising his role of Raleigh Beckett in Pacific Rim 2

He said that while early drafts included his character, due to scheduling conflicts he won't be able to reprise his role of the main protagonist from the original movie.

Honestly, it isn't much a loss, but hopefully they don't treat his character as they did Will Smith's in the Independence Day: Resurgence (they killed him off in a very stupid way). With John Boyega being cast as the son of Idris Elba's character, Stacker Pentecost. I'd honestly rather have Elba cameo in the sequel (given it is Idris Elba and I would listen to that man read a freaking phone-book and it would be the most riveting thing ever) and Rinko Kikuchi's Mako Mori be expanded on. I mean that right there would be some juicy meaty story on the human side, and that's not including Newt (Charlie Day's character),  Herc Hansen (played with glorious bad-ass cheese by Max Martini), or more glorious Hannibal Chau (played by the one and only Ron Perlman).

Pacific Rim 2 aka the battle between Jaegers vs. Kaiju will begin again on February 23, 2018.
