Hoping to increase ratings and save the show from it's fourth consecutive cancellation, Marvel has taken a page from its rival, DC: just put Batman in it. As a result, Jason O'Mara, who voiced Batman in the animated Taylor Swift video remix, Batman: Bad Blood feat. Kendrick Lamar, will play the new director of S.H.I.E.L.D. in the next season of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
"For years, this has worked for DC," explained Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. co-showrunner Joss Whedon's brother. "Something like 60% of their comics output is Batman, and Batman stars in every movie they've made for the past ten years."
"Jason O'Mara was the best Batman we were able to get, after Adam West," added fellow co-showrunner Joss Whedon's brother's wife. "I don't think it really matters though, as long as you have a Batman. He'll have to do."
Producers say that copyright concerns aren't an issue, since no one watches the show anyway, telling The Outhouse, "if a trademark is infringed upon in the forest, and everyone gave up being in that forest somewhere around the third episode of season one, does it make a lawsuit?" We'll have to see. Batman and the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns to ABC this fall.
