Hot on the heels of the success of DC's animated adaptation of The Killing Joke, fans of DC cartoon movies are clamoring for more grim and gritty animated fare. However, the trailer for the next DC animated film has viewers scratching their heads. Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders is based on the 1960s Batman television show and features the voice acting of series cast members Adam West, Burt Ward, and Julie Newmar. An return to a simpler, campier time, the trailer shows a fun and lighthearted take on the Batman mythos.
"This is a fun and lighthearted take on the Batman mythos. What the fuck?" asked one fan, who started following DC's animated universe with The Killing Joke. "No disturbing scenes of sexual violence? No thank you."
"I counted characters smiling no less than six times in the trailer alone," said another, who said she would decline watching this particular film, but might be interested in a future installment where Robin is brutally murdered, preferably while having one or multiple limbs ripped off. "These are not the DC heroes I love. Children would probably enjoy this cartoon, for chrissakes."
"Where is the Batman on Batgirl sex scene?" wondered yet another disappointed viewer. "I want to see Batman uncomfortably groping Barbara Gordon's butt. It's the whole reason I buy these things."
It looks like Batman: Return of the Caped Crusader may have difficulty finding an audience. Nevertheless, the film will be released digitally on October 11 and on Blu Ray on November 1. If you still use DVDs, go and fuck yourself. Check out the trailer below:
