Next February The Forbidden Zone Channels Emerald Willpower (UPDATED)

Warning: this article contains some really, REALLY bad ape puns.

Source: DC Comics and BOOM! Press Release

Get ready because February 2017 sees a really bananas cross-over as a collaboration between BOOM! Studios, the Consumer Products division of Twentieth Century Fox  and DC Comics leads to the Planet Of The Apes getting an unexpected visit from the Green Lantern Corps.

The solicit for this cross-Company team-up teases:

When Taylor goes missing, Cornelius investigates and discovers an ancient ring, unlike anything he has ever seen. As its power echoes through the stars, the Guardians of the Universe must reveal to their Lanterns a secret they had hoped would remain buried. With the Green Lantern Corps, led by Hal Jordan, racing to get to the source of this power before Sinestro can get his hands on it, they will discover a truth that will change them forever on...the Planet of the Apes!

And now a word from the Corporate Big Guys who want to tell you how cool this whole thing has been.

BOOM! Studios EiC Matt Gagnon chimes in with:

"We've been having endless amounts of fun collaborating with our friends at DC Entertainment and this new crossover only ups the ante. Both Planet of the Apes and Green Lantern boast decades of entertaining stories and dozens of fan-favorite characters. The result of crossing over these two incredible franchises is an ambitious, epic story that's brimming with one of the most enjoyable cast of characters in all of comics."

Over at DC Entertainment, Hank Kanalz, Senior Vice President, Editorial Strategy and Administration, adds:

"We're excited to partner with BOOM! Studios for another fascinating crossover, combining favorite characters in an epic adventure. A Green Lantern Ring seeks out one who is utterly honest and born without fear, so landing a Ring on the Planet of the Apes is filled with unlimited potential. The real fun begins when other rings—and other apes—get thrown in the mix!"

The 6-issue mini-series, Planet of the Apes/Green Lantern, will be co-written by Robbie Thompson and Justin Jordan, with art by Barnaby Bagenda (The Omega Men).

Ethan Van Sciver has been tapped for the first issue's hair-raising main cover.

BOOM! announced that issue #1 will also feature variant covers by Steve Morris (movie poster style), and Felipe Massafera (foil-stamped). BOOM!s Twitter page  (via Newsarama) teases David Ryan Robinson's Vintage Action Figure variant.

Here is Paul Rivoche's Silver Age homage variant to 1959's Showcase: Green Lantern #22.

About the Author - IvCNuB4

IvCNuB4 likes to maintain an air of mystery by never publicly revealing his true name unless you are one of the four lucky Outhouse posters he has PM'd it to. A life-long Chicago native, he was introduced to comics by his older brother's vast collection of Silver Age issues. When he is not at his day job as an IT geek or making the most of Chicago's three months of incredible summer, he can found spending way too much time with his very large, very loud Italian family. You will never find him on the likes of Facebook or Twitter as he scoffs at the necessity of most forms of social media.
