Star Trek sure could use a boost. While Star Trek Beyond had a decent reception, it was not a huge sensation, it's 50th anniversary has been viewed as somewhat botched. The upcoming television show, Star Trek: Discovery has been pushed from January to May, the production staff has been made emptier with the exit of showrunner Bryan Fuller, and CBS executives have downplayed Trek's presence on broadcast television.
So, yeah, with that in mind there may be some good news for Trek. Maybe. According to ComingSoon.Net, Michelle Yeoh (Crouching Dragon, Hidden Tiger; Crouching Dragon, Hidden Tiger: Sword of Destiny; Marco Polo) may be joining the cast of Star Trek: Discovery, which would mark the first cast announcement for the show. Well maybe. During an interview with ComingSoon.Net about his movie Time After Time, Discovery co-producer and writer Nicholas Meyer said (presumably in relation to Star Trek: Discovery):
"I know Michelle Yeoh is in it"
So, just pretend Yeoh has been cast, what role might she take? We know the main character is a female lieutenant commander so that's a possibility. However, looking at Yeoh's career might provide another hint as she once went by the acting name… Michelle Khan.
*** cue dramatic sting ***
Well, if she is cast in Discovery, we're sure she'll do yeoman's work whether the role is big or small.
*Yeah, Meyer directed Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
