Nintendo, not content to not have enough stock of their NES Classic Edition or New Nintendo 3DS on the shelves this holiday, is reminding us that they will be bringing their characters and worlds to Universal Theme Parks… someday. Nintendo and Universal announced their partnership to create Nintendo-themed attractions last May and in their typical fashion has been pretty mum about it, aside from a few references during corporate briefings. Well, today the silence is broken… just a tiny bit though.

When the partnership was initially announced, the statement mentioned Universal Theme Parks, and today it was confirmed that Nintendo will be coming to multiple locations. Here's Universal Orlando's Tom Schroder summary of what was covered today:

You’ll enter an entire realm filled with iconic Nintendo excitement, gameplay, heroes and villains. And it’s coming to three Universal theme parks around the globe.

  • Nintendo-themed areas are coming to Universal Studios Japan, Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Hollywood.
  • These will be expansive, immersive and interactive. They’ll be highly themed and authentic environments filled with multiple attractions, shops and restaurants.
  • You’ll feel as if you’re playing inside your favorite games – in real life.
  • There will be something for everyone—regardless of their age or gaming experience level.
  • Planning and creative work on these areas is well underway; they will open separately over the next several years.

And here is is straight from the source, Nintendo Creative Fellow Shigeru Miyamoto and Mark Woodbury from Universal Creative:

So yeah, not much meat on them bones yet. We'll bring you more information… in the next several years…
