New Mutants Director Originally Pitched Movie As Trilogy

Surprising no one, but reminding everyone of a New Mutants movie.

Every Hollywood movie needs a sequel; it's got brand recognition and star power. Superhero films need a hundred sequels. Josh Boone, director of X-Men: The New Mutants, because you need that X-Men in the title for brand recognition, pitched the movie as a trilogy.

After I made The Fault in Our Stars, we made Fox a comic book. It walked them through a trilogy of New Mutant films that would build on each other. We used this program called Comic Life, and took all the images we had loved from the series and strung them together to show them the movie we wanted to do.

It's nice to live in a world where a director can create a comic book to pitch a property to a movie studio that the studio already owns. Earlier this year the first bit of casting news regarding the movie came out, including Alexandra Shipp as Storm coming from X:Men Apocalypse, Anya Taylor-Joy as Magik, and Maisie Williams as Wolfsbane. Sophie Turner's Jean Grey, Tye Sheridan's Cyclops, and Kodi Smit-Mcphee's Nightcrawler are all rumored to also make the leap from X:Men Apocalypse into New Mutants.

X-Men: The New Mutants is set to start filming in May in Montreal.
