As reported last week, Carrie Fisher suffered a massive heart attack last Friday. A statement today released on behalf of her daughter Billie Lourd revealed that the actress passed away this morning.
"It is with a very deep sadness that Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8:55 this morning," reads the statement.
Fisher was flying from London to LA, when she went into cardiac arrest. She was rushed from the airport to a hospital, where she was treated for a heart attack.
The daughter of Debbie Reynolds and Eddie Fisher, Fisher first appeared in the movie Shampoo, before starring in Star Wars two years later. Aside from the Star Wars franchise, she starred in The Blues Brothers, The Man with One Red Shoe, Woody Allen's Hannah and Her Sisters, and When Harry Met Sally. She is survived by her mom Reynolds, daughter Lourd and beloved French bulldog, Gary.
