The Walking Dead May Drag On For Twelve Seasons

There's a reason zombie movies end.

While The Walking Dead's ratings may be falling, they're still fetching over 10 million viewers a week, despite that the show isn't for a younger audience. Naturally, seven seasons deep, the question arises, how long can they keep this up? Luckily, creator Robert Kirkman weighed in from atop his solid gold Colonel Sanders statue in front of his mansion in Kentucky, writing in The Walking Dead #161.

"It took us 6 seasons to get to 100," Kirkman wrote. "It won't take us 6 years to get to 200 and that will take us to season ... TWELVE. And we'll still be ahead of the show at that point."

With Kirkman and AMC drowning in money, there's no need for The Walking Dead to come to an end any time soon. Comic Book Dot Com did the math regarding the issue to season ratio.

"On television, the series covers about 20 issues in a single season on average. Just to reach issue #160, the show would need another three seasons which would allow the comic to publish at least another 36 issues."

They clearly slept through math class in first grade, as 20 issues per season would only take 8 seasons to reach 160. Regardless, the show still has a ton of source material to pull from for future seasons. At the very least, they'll pull a Game of Thrones and create their own stories once they're caught up.
