R.I.P. Miguel Ferrer (1955-2017)

The actor who made a living playing shady characters and villains passed away at the age of 61.

If there was a shady character in a movie in the 80s to 90s they were either played by Jon Polito or Miguel Ferrer. Well, the world is gonna miss that shade he brought to his roles, as the actor has passed away at the age of 61, due to throat cancer.

His voice instantly recognizable along with his face. The most famous appearances of him was as Bob Morton in Robocop (1987), Captain of the Excelsior in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock (1984), Snyder in Deepstar Six (1989), the Vice President in Iron Man 3 (2013), and FBI Agent Albert Rosenfield in the Twin Peaks franchise (he reprised the character for the 2017 relaunched series, and will be one of his final roles). He was a constant face in TV shows as well, his most recent stint was being a regular on NCIS: Los Angeles

But, for fans of cartoons, the actor had a lengthy career in voice acting as well. He was Death on Adventure Time, Vandal Savage in Young Justice, Silvermane in Spectacular Spider-Man, Weather Wizard/Aquaman on Superman: The Animated Series, Shan Yu in Mulan (1998) Sinestro in the Batman, the Duelist in the recent remake of Thundercats are just the tip of a long iceberg of roles he had on animated programs/movies.

Personally, my favorite role of his (besides Bob Morton in Robocop) was as Commander Harbinger Hot Shots! Part Deux (1991). He was cast as his usual type of character he played, but at the movie's climax, we learn that he's just a red herrings and not a real antagonist. Instead, we learn his character has lost all will to kill and is now a coward. The scene of Topper's speech of him and "reigniting" his urge to kill, and his subsequent slaughter of bad guys everywhere left me crying with laughter (then again a lot of the jokes in that movie are just so damn great).

It was just mere hours after being revealed to have being cast as Deathstroke in Teen Titans: Judas Contract animated movie, was when the sad news broke that the actor had died.

So here's to you and your grand career, Mr. Ferrer. You will be missed.
