Netflix made the previously "confirmed" Castlevania animated series official today. During an announcement of their Original Series, they quietly slipped in that Castlevania Season 1, Part 1 would debut some time this year (no specific date was provided). The show will be based on the long running videogame series by Konami (also known as Akumajō Dorakyura in Japan) , which first debuted in 1986. The four-part animated series will focus on:

"the last surviving member of the disgraced Belmont clan, trying to save Eastern Europe from extinction at the hand of Vlad Dracula Tepe himself."

Each episode will run around 30 minutes. The show will be produced by Kevin Kolde, Fred Seibert, Adi Shankar, and Warren Ellis who is also onboard as a writer. Seibert's Frederator Studios will be doing the animation for the series. According to Shankar, the second season will debut in 2018.
