Disney has found the director for their live-action Mulan in Whale Rider's Niki Caro. The director was formerly in the running for the Captain Marvel job. Caro's hiring is notable as she's white and from New Zealand, while Mulan is based on the Chinese woman warrior Hua Mulan.

Fear not, True Believer. While Disney decided against an Asian director, the studio hopes to assure fans the live-action version of Mulan will be "culturally authentic." Disney has also held extensive conversations with Chinese cultural consultants and will work close with its own China-based team. The studio is also bringing on Hong Kong-based super-producer Bill Kong, no relation to King, as executive producer.

Disney may not be at fault though, as Sony is still searching for an Asian director for its Mulan adaptation as well.
