The richest man in Kentucky, Robert Kirkman, introduced the Image founders, minus Jim Lee, at their 25th anniversary panel at Emerald City Comic Con. Unbeknownst to everyone there, Kirkman was about to make this panel about himself. First, he said that if he had done The Walking Dead at boom Studios, then Ross Richie would be seated on stage. Shots fired. Then, he said that if he had done The Walking Dead at Dark Horse, Mike Richardson would be onstage. Shots fired. He ended with saying that if he had done The Walking Dead at Valiant, then no one would have heard of The Walking Dead. Shots fanned!
Valiant CEO Dinesh Shamdasani would not take that sitting down.
Luckily for The Outhouse, I happened to run into Kirkman on the ECCC floor. The first thing he said was, "Oh, no. Not you guys." Then, I asked Kirkman about Dinesh's response, he told me, "He has a valid argument, but why would anyone want to rip off X-O Manowar? We're all ripping off Iron Man anyway, so no. We draw inspiration from similar things."
