On Cutting Edge, IDW Partners With Atari

For our younger crowd, Atari was a video game company from 1972-1984.

IDW's game division, the aptly named IDW Games, announced a partnership with Atari to publish board games based on video games. Atari, maybe best known for burying 3.5 million ET: The Extra Terrestrial cartridges in the New Mexican desert, was an early American video game company, which went bust in 1984 after the market crashed.

The first three board games to be released are Centipede, where the player shoots from the bottom at a zig-zagging centipede; Asteroids, where the player controls a spaceship in an asteroid field while avoiding said asteroids; and Missile Command, where the player protects six cities from incoming missiles.

Their first game, Centipede, is set to be released in Fall 2017.
