So the latest Transformers: The Last Knight trailer dropped. This particular one is quite different than the usual Transformer trailers in the past as it puts the full spotlight on the new human character Isabella (played by Isabela Moner in her first role). Here's the trailer:
The thing that makes me nervous is, well it's Michael Bay and the Transformers franchise. Every preceding female character in this franchise has been three things either: A.) a slab of meat for a male character to drool/fawn over and Bay to give fanservice to her beauty (in ways only Michael Bay can). B.) That she's a walking talking exposition device. C.) She's nothing but fodder aka the fate that befell the Autobot Arcee trio in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.
Which is why this trailer is a bit jarring given it's kind of good since Izzy doesn't seem like any of that. Save for the "boyfriend" comment. The trailer actually is pretty good. Which usually the hallmark of this franchise being if the trailers are so damn good, then the actual installment is going to be even more awful!!
But what if--
I will not have any newly found hope for this franchise! We've had four Transformer live-action movies and still, the best one was the freaking animated one! My rational mind will the obvious questions this trailer raises. Like why is there a TIE Scouts in this? Wait how did this become a Star Wars trailer? Who are those fellas emerging from the place Bumblebee and EVIL Optimus Prime have dueled? Did Prime successfully break their hold on him, since they just knock him over and charge at something? Will Megatron be anything other than a joke in this franchise after the original movie? I want answers to these questions!
...... And I'll have them when Transformers: The Last Knight come's out June 23.
