Legendary horror artist and master of the macabre Bernie "Berni" Wrightson has passed away at age 68 after a long battle with brain cancer. The artist was most well-known for his horror illustrations both in comics and books, featuring intricate linework and dark and rich shadows. He retired this past January due to his failing health.

Wrightson's first published comic book work was in DC's House of Mystery #179 published in 1968. His most famous work for DC may be on Swamp Thing, who he co-created with writer Len Wein. He did work for several comic companies including DC, Warren, and Marvel.
