It seems Netflix is just throwing trailer after trailer of all their programming today. Cause a series that isn't even coming to the streaming network in August just given a teaser trailer. Of course, this series isn't like any usual series they've done with.
For this is Death Note, based on the manga by Tsugumi Ohba (story) and Takeshi Obata (art). The franchise was a popular one so much we've gotten four live-action films from Japan, which range from good, to "oh dear God what were they thinking?!" crazy.
Of course, this is the American version. So surprisingly, so far this does look good (which is right where they want us. To lure us into thinking it's good, then reveal it's shitty like the rest of the manga adaptations America has handled in the past). Too good, which means it'll probably suck. Probably. Maybe not? Dammit.
Okay, I admit it. Casting Willem Dafoe as the voice of Ryuk is brilliant. Death Note arrives August 25th on Netflix.
