'Marvel Legacy' One-Shot Goes Old Skool

Really old skool…

Source: Marvel Legacy Takes Hold this Fall

This Fall, Marvel's future direction will be in the past. We already know that we'll be seeing some previous versions of Marvel's heroes via the Generations event, but following that, we'll get Marvel Legacy. Apparently Marvel Legacy is both a comic and an initiative.

First the comic. Marvel Legacy #1 will be a 50-page one-shot dropping in the Fall (after September?). The comic will be by Jason Aaron and Esad Ribic and is supposed to serve as a primer for the current Marvel Universe and set up for what happens next. Here's how Aaron describes the plot:

"We get a peak into the very distant past here so we go back to the prehistoric days of the Marvel Universe" … "[We are] seeing versions of Marvel's biggest legacy characters and different versions we haven't seen before and [an adventure] of, I guess I could call 'the Prehistoric Avengers.' That adventure will have major ramifications for the Marvel Universe going forward."

In addition, Marvel Editor-In-Chief Axel Alonso makes a bold prediction about what Marvel Legacy will have:

"… a last-page reveal that just might break the Internet."

While Editor Tom Breevort teases…

"… the return of a central piece of the Marvel mythos that readers have been mourning in recent months."

Hmmm. We're sure our audience can think of several creative answers to that one.

Characters that might figure into Legacy include: America Chavez, the Avengers, Captain America, Captain Marvel, the Champions, Deadpool, the Guardians of the Galaxy, Hulk, Ironheart, Iron Man, Luke Cage, Ms. Marvel, Moon Knight, Odinson, The Punisher, Spider-Man, Squirrel Girl, Wolverine, the X-Men, and that old favorite… so many more.

As part of the Marvel Legacy initiative, as we heard before, long-running comics will return to their original numbering. The Marvel Legacy trade dress will be on comics that provide a good hopping on point for readers. You can also expect to see other blasts from the past such as the "Marvel Value Stamp, the fan magazine FOOM, and corner box art on covers".
