Late last year Sony revealed a new game in the long-dormant Marvel Vs. Capcom franchise, Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite. Now we are finally getting a little more information on the game, including info about the game's story and its release date.

This is how Marvel describes the upcoming game:

For the first time in franchise history, the Marvel and Capcom universes collide in a visually stunning and immersive cinematic Story Mode, as heroes and villains battle together to save their merged worlds from a sinister new threat, Ultron Sigma. A combination of the robotic foes known as Ultron from the Marvel Universe and Sigma from the Capcom Universe, this psychotic villain is obsessed with infecting all organic life with a cybernetic virus. History’s greatest gathering of warriors must now unite to fight back against Ultron Sigma and save their newly formed world.

Coincidentally Marvel also released a new trailer illustrating the story, and revealing a few new characters:

Along with the previously announced characters, here are the new additions:

  • Ultron
  • Hulk
  • Thor
  • Hawkeye
  • Rocket Raccoon
  • Chun-Li
  • Strider Hiryu
  • Chris Redfield

Aside from the cinematic/story mode, there are other formats of play including:

…single player Arcade, Training, and Mission modes and vast multiplayer offerings will provide memorable experiences and infinite gameplay possibilities for players of all skill levels.

Because of the inclusion of the Infinity Stones in the game, players also get a more flexible power set, allowing them to:

… equip and unleash elemental in-game powers, such as Time, Power and Space.

Pre-orders for the game starts today, and the game will be releasing for PlayStation 4, XBox One, and Windows PC on September 19, 2017. There is a standard edition with an MSRP of $59.99 and a deluxe edition with an MSRP of $89.99. The deluxe edition contains the game on the platform of your choice, and a 2017 character pass which will give you 6 post release playable characters (because, Capcom), including Sigma. If you pre-order, you can also get (in North America) Warrior Thor and Evil Ryu costumes.

There's also a limited collector's edition for $199.99 MSRP for PS4 or XBox One. This edition contains:

… four premium character dioramas of Iron Man, Captain Marvel, Mega Man X, and Chun-Li, a case filled with six Infinity Stone replicas, as well as SteelBook packaging that contains the Deluxe Edition of the game
