A new fantasy series is coming to Netflix based on a series of novels: The Witcher Saga. The Witcher story has been made famous worldwide by the videogame series by CD Projekt RED based on the Witcher stories starting in 2007, with the latest iteration released in 2015, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. There was also a comic published in the US by Dark Horse based on the videogames.

As mentioned though, the Netflix series will be based on the short stories and novels by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski on which the game was based, specifically The Witcher Saga books. Executive producers Sean Daniel and Jason Brown describe the series:

"The Witcher stories follow an unconventional family that comes together to fight for truth in a dangerous world" … "The characters are original, funny and constantly surprising and we can’t wait to bring them to life at Netflix, the perfect home for innovative storytelling."

Sapkowski will serve as a consultant to the series. Tomek Baginski and Jarek Sawko from effects production company Platige Image add that although the story deals with magic and monsters, it should be relatable:

"There is a moral and intellectual depth in these books which goes beyond genre. It is a story about today and today’s challenges, hidden under a fantasy cover. It is a story about us, about the monster and the hero inside all of our hearts."

A release date and casting for The Witcher Saga series have not been announced.
