Marvel Unceremoniously Cancels World Of Wakanda

The cancellation comes a month after Black Panther & the Crew got the axe.

After the success of the launch of the Black Panther series last year, Marvel decided to flood the market with spinoff books, World Of Wakanda and Black Panther & The Crew. The latter book lasted an entire month before getting cancelled, two months after VP of Sales David Gabriel said that people are "turning their noses up" at diversity.

This week, World Of Wakanda writer Roxane Gay responded to a fan on Twitter asking her if she's still working on the book.

In a case of poor timing, this cancellation comes just days after the movie trailer for Black Panther was released. Sales were to blame for the cancellation of Black Panther & The Crew. The first issue sold 35,604 copies, higher than a lot of other Marvel titles that didn't get cancelled. Black Panther sold 253,259 out of the gate, after an enormous PR push, but #13 sold only 30,509 in April. World of Wakanda #6 sold only 14,547 copies in April.
