Outhouse Shocker: Nintendo Announces Super NES Classic Edition (Minor Update)

Good luck getting one.

Last year Nintendo had an instant hit with their NES Classic Edition, a miniaturized version of their hit 1985 (in the US) system, this time with 30 games built in. The system quickly became the impossible toy to get, and what does Nintendo do when they have a hot toy on their hands? They cancel its production. Well, Outhouse shocker, Nintendo is about to do it again, this time with the follow up to the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), 1991's (in the US) Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES).

Yes, Nintendo will be producing a Super NES Classic Edition sytem for everyone to fight over this year. This new system will be $20 more than the SNES Classic Edition, with an MSRP of $79.99 and will include 21 16-bit games onboard. The games included are:

  • Super Mario World
  • Super Mario Kart
  • The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
  • F-Zero
  • Super Metroid
  • Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting
  • Super Punch-Out
  • Super Castlevania IV
  • Donkey Kong Country
  • Mega Man X
  • Kirby Super Star
  • Final Fantasy III
  • Kirby's Dream Course
  • Star Fox
  • Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island
  • Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
  • Contra III: The Alien Wars
  • Secret of Mana
  • EarthBound
  • Super Ghouls 'N Ghosts
  • Star Fox 2 (never before released)

Like the NES Classic Edition, the SNES edition will come with two wired Super NES classic controllers for multiplayer action right away. You can also plug in classic controllers or classic controller pros if you want. The system goes on sale September 29. The Outhouse wishes you good luck.

Minor Update:

Europe will also be getting the SNES Classic Edition, and it will be styled like the Japanese release as it was back in 1992:
