New details have emerged surrounding the departure of directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller on the untitled Han Solo solo movie, and it seems that the issues have been piling up on the film. When production moved from London to the Canary Islands, editor Chris Dickens was replaced with Oscar-winning editor Pietro ScaliaLucasfilm was also "not entirely satisfied" with Alden Ehrenreich's performance as Solo, so an acting coach was hired to work with him.

The directors used less setups than Lucasfilm preferred, giving fewer options in the editing room. Lord and Miller reportedly felt they had "zero creative freedom" on the film. Lucasfilm was also not happy with Lord and Miller's improvisational style, which they previously used on 21 Jump Street. Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy flew writer/producer Lawrence Kasdan to London, where he clashed with Lord and Miller's process which included improvising lines. Kasdan became a "shadow director" on the film, to the dismay of Lord and Miller, ultimately leading to their departure and Ron Howard filling in.

Production has resumed and will go through September, instead of its original end date of July. This isn't the first dilemma Lucasfilm has faced with the new Star Wars films, as Tony Gilroy took over reshoots on Rogue One from director Gareth Edwards. Both Lord and Miller and Edwards have unique visions for their movies, which may affect the directors Lucasfilm hires in the future, ones who may be more open to sticking to the script. Lord and Miller won't be out of work for long, as the directors met with Warner Bros. during a break in filming, to discuss The Flash.

The Han Solo solo movie is written by Lawrence and Jon Kasdan, partially-directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller & Ron Howard, and stars Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo, Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian, Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Woody Harrelson, and Emilia Clarke and is set to release in May 2018.
