Thanks to new California Tax Credits, Captain Marvel will film in the state, saving roughly $20 million. This will be the first movie to shoot in California since 2014's Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
8 feature films were selected from 92 entrants for a piece of the $68 million in the recent round of tax breaks. Other films to take advantage of the new credits include Roland Emmerich's Midway and Cheney, a biopic of former Vice President Dick Cheney, starring Christian Bale.
The tax credits apply only to below-the-line expenditures, such as equipment and crew. They don't include the salaries of major stars and directors. While most Marvel movies film in Georgia now, previous films to shoot in California include 2008's Iron Man and 2011's Thor.
