Matt Groening, the man behind The Simpsons and Futurama, is bringing something new to Netflix. Disenchantment is being described as an "adult animated comedy fantasy series" taking place in:
"… the crumbling medieval kingdom of Dreamland, where they will follow the misadventures of hard-drinking young princess Bean, her feisty elf companion Elfo, and her personal demon Luci. Along the way, the oddball trio will encounter ogres, sprites, harpies, imps, trolls, walruses, and lots of human fools."
If you are a fan of Groening's previous work, you'll recognize some of the voice talent that will perform in the series such as John DiMaggio, Maurice LaMarche, Tress MacNeille, and Billy West. The lead voices for the show will be Abbi Jacobson (Bean), Nat Faxon (Elfo), and Eric Andre (Luci). The animation will be by Rough Draft Studios, who did Futurama, and be in his "trademark animation style".
Groening commented on the show, saying:
"Ultimately, Disenchantment will be about life and death, love and sex, and how to keep laughing in a world full of suffering and idiots, despite what the elders and wizards and other jerks tell you."
Netflix ordered 20 episodes of the animated series, which it will release ten at a time. Disenchantment will air in 2018, no specific start date was announced.
