The Knights Return To Comics In 'Visionaries Vs. Transformers'

Will there be holographic covers?

Source: This Visionaries Vs. Transformers exclusive revives a forgotten Hasbro property

During San Diego Comic-Con in July, IDW  teased that Visionaries would be returning to comics. The 1987 toy, cartoon, and comic property revolved around the battles between the Spectral Knights and the Darkling Lords. Well, it looks like they have someone new to fight with as December brings us their return to the funny books with Visionaries Vs. Transformers. Do the Transformers get along with anybody?!

The title will be written by Magdalene Visaggio (Kim & Kim) with art by Fico Ossio (Revolution, Revolutionaries). It looks like the Visionaries somehow find themselves on Cybertron instead of Prysmos this time around. The writer describes the new take:

"We’ve worked hard to keep it fresh enough for new readers, but faithful enough to the source material for old fans. It has all the same scheming wizards, dastardly villains, and flawed heroes of the original, but with a stunning new twist."

Here are a few of the covers available for the comic's first issue:

The source article also included some concept art mostly unlabeled, of the Visionaries characters. This character appears to be the main character. He has a lion-like totem on his chest making one think this could be an updated version of the main character Leoric. However, he looks very different from the Leoric toy they released as part of the Revolution Comic Crossover Mega-Set, also at this past San Diego Comic-Con. He also does not appear to be carrying the Power Staff of Wisdom which Leoric did.

Some of the concept art appear to be updated versions of classic characters since their names were included (classic animal noted in parentheses here). This batch includes Arzon (eagle totem), Witterquick (cheetah), and Ectar (fox).

Here are a couple of Darkling Lords, Lexor (armadillo) and Cravex (Phylot, a Prysmos pterodactyl):

Here's knight Galadria (dolphin) and lord Reekon (lizard):

The following images don't state who the characters are. Since the woman appears to be sporting a shark-like totem, we can guess she might be Virulina. The man in the second image is more mysterious since he has no animal totem to use as a guess (though his helmet sort of resembles a jellyfish). Could he be the new version of the wizard Merklynn, who also wears red?

Visionaries Vs. Transformers will arrive in comic stores December 27.
