IDW's 'First Strike' Event Strikes Again With 'Scarlett's Strike Force'

Seems like the Joes are no longer unmasked…

Source: Exclusive: Aubrey Sitterson Leads G.I. Joe Into a New Era with Scarlett’s Strike Force

Last year, IDW's Revolution  event combined the characters of several Hasbro properties. This year's event, First Strike, will have the G.I. Joe Scarlett in the spotlight as she fights to save the Transformers home world of Cybertron. Like Revolution, First Strike promised to launch new titles, but things may have changed a bit since that announcement.

Previously, it was announced that G.I. Joe would end its run with issue 9, but relaunch after First Strike in November with G.I. Joe: Unmasked, combining characters from G.I. Joe and M.A.S.K.. While it was not explicitly stated, it seems like that plan may have changed. At Hasbro's first conference, Hascon, this past weekend the relaunched G.I. Joe title Scarlett's Strike Force was announced.

Scarlett's Strike Force will be written by current Joe writer Aubrey Sitterson, with art by Nelson Daniel. Yes, it will include M.A.S.K. commander Matt Trakker, and another yet unknown character. The book will continue to amp up the sci-fi elements of G.I. Joe, as the previous title did. Here's how Sitterson described the new cast:

"While the focus of the book will remain on the characters you know and love—including Scarlett, Roadblock, Salvo, Quick Kick and Skywarp—one of the G.I. Joe concept’s greatest strengths is its deep roster. We’ll be pulling from it, and even introducing the classic Action Man character, The Intruder, into the Hasbro Universe. Plus, our brand-new Cobra Commander has assembled an organization including Destro, Storm Shadow, Cesspool, Croc Master, Raptor and an army of new, serpentine Vipers."

Sitterson also outlined his goal for this new title:

"Scarlett’s Strike Force isn’t just The Crown Jewel of the Hasbro Universe, it’s The Best Action Comic Ever."

Scarlett's Strike Force should strike comic shelves in December.
