Dude, They're Working On A New 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' Arcade Brawler

Now you're playing with turtle power

If you're an old fart like this reporter, you'd have fond memories of the quarter-munching arcade game, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The 1989 game by Konami was a simultaneous 4-player side-scrolling beat 'em up based on the 1980s cartoon.

The game was ported to the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1990 as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Arcade Game and also had versions on PC and XBox Live Arcade. Nothing beats a stand-up arcade cabinet though. If you are a fan of those, there is potential good news.

It appears that Raw Thrills is working on a new 4-player Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles arcade brawler in the spirit of the 1989 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (or 1991's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time) arcade game. According to a flyer promoting the game's presence at the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) expo, the new game will feature:

  • Brand new adventure!
  • 4 player action!
  • Redemption option!
  • Giant 55" HD screen!
  • Turtle power income!

Arcade Heroes reached out to Raw Thrills for a statement about the game:

This new version of TMNT is a completely new re-imagining of the brawler concept. There are more moves, more environmental interaction, cool Turtle Power special attacks, voiceover from the entire cast (including Seth Green and others)... it's really amazing.

It's not all nostalgia though. The game will not be based on the 80s cartoon, but the current Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series airing on Nickelodeon (thankfully it's not based on the Michael Bay-related movie). Who's up for a trip to the arcade?

A release date for the game was not specified.
