Theaters Pray Disney Doesn't Alter Star Wars: The Last Jedi Deal Any Further

Disney will take 65% of ticket sales from theaters.

Some theaters are refusing to show Star Wars Episode VIII The Last Jedi due to Disney forcing secret terms on the theaters. These terms include 65% of ticket sales, up from 64%, and theaters must show the film in their largest auditorium for at least four weeks, up from the normal Disney rate of two weeks.

If any of these rules get broken, including advertising the movie before Disney's permission, the studio will charge a 5% penalty fee, raising their take to 70% of ticket sale revenue. Studios usually get a domestic take of 55-60% and a foreign take of around 40%.

Some small theaters, with only one or two screens, won't be able to agree to that deal of an entire month of Star Wars, leading them to not carry the film.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is set to release December 15, 2017.
