Director Denis Villeneuve was on the Happy Sad Confused podcast recently where, most important of all, he talked about his love of Star Wars. He particularly loved Episodes IV and X.
It's something that, again it's like, I would be intrigued. I don't know, it's very difficult. What is dangerous with Star Wars right now is it's become its own vocabulary. I would love to see them, I think Rogue One was a very interesting attempt to get out of the mould.
As a director who makes unique movies (Sicario, Prisoners), he feels he would be forced into making a cookie-cutter saga Star Wars film. Though, he was a fan of Rogue One and how it was a Star Wars film, but a little different. With this, he would open to doing a non-saga Star Wars movie.
I think it would be a great idea to get out of there and to go on a new part of the galaxy that I would be open to.
Villeneuve is currently working on an adaptation of Dune.
