Earlier this year, WGN filmed a pilot for an adaptation of Scalped and now the network has passed on the series. The decision stems from WGN's parent company being acquired by Sinclair Broadcast Group. The company's plans are for WGN to be shifting its strategy away from high-cost originals into more cost-effective originals and reruns.
Jason Aaron, writer on the 60 issue series from Vertigo described his time on set and the decision.
"I got to visit the set while they were filming the pilot, and got to hang out with everyone. I was very impressed with the cast," the writer says. "It had an incredible cast, and I was excited to see them all dig into the characters. When I was told WGN passed, I was mostly disappointed for them."
The cast included Alex Meraz as Dashiell Bad Horse, Lily Gladstone as Carol Red Crow, Gil Birmingham as portray Chief Lincoln Red Crow, Irene Bedard as Gina Bad Horse, and Chaske Spence as Sheriff Falls Down.
