In Good News Max Landis Isn't Writing The Bright Sequel, In Bad News Bright Is Getting A Sequel

David Ayer will write in addition to directing.

Bright, a heavy-handed social commentary about race told in a high fantasy world, is Netflix's highest-viewed original film, in addition to being its most expensive film at around $90 million. According to Nielsen, the film was viewed 11 million times in its first three days of release. This number is likely higher as Nielsen only takes into account TV viewers and not computer or mobile users.

Despite its high price tag and poor reviews, the film has garnered enough views to warrant a sequel. Leads Will Smith and Joel Edgerton will reprise their roles as human and orc officers, respectively. David Ayer will return to direct in addition to taking over writing duties from Max Landis, who has been in the news recently himself for sexual harassment allegations.

Netflix made the announcement on Twitter.
