At this point, ratings can only go up.

Because you can't keep a good show(runner) down, The Walking Dead has been renewed for a ninth season. And with a new season comes a new showrunner in Angela Kang. This makes the fourth showrunner over the course of nine seasons, meaning the show averages a new showrunner every two and a quarter seasons.

Kang first joined The Walking Dead as a story editor in the second season, was promoted to producer in the third, and became co-executive producer in the fifth, before landing the highly volatile job of showrunner.

Season 8 of The Walking Dead saw the lowest ratings for the show since Season 2, so Kang's first order of business will be to try to bring the show back to life.
