Last year, Disney announced plans for its own streaming service rivaling services such as Netflix (which they are pulling shows from). As part of this new service, it was revealed a little later by Disney CEO Bob Iger, would be a live-action Star Wars series.
Well, as if a new series of Star Wars movies by the televised Game of Thrones creators wasn't enough Star Wars news for a day, it looks like there will be more Star Wars on the small screen too. During an earnings call, Bob Iger (him again!) spilled the beans to investors:
"We are developing not just one, but a few Star Wars series specifically for the Disney direct-to-consumer app. We've mentioned that and we are close to being able to reveal at least one of the entities that is developing that for us. Because the deal isn't completely closed, we can't be specific about that."
Iger seems to be impressed with the creative forces assembled for this:
"I think you'll find the level of talent … on the television front will be rather significant as well."
We're not sure when the new Star Wars shows will debut, but the streaming app is aiming for late 2019.
