Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has had A LOT of unfinished comic runs. Mirage's TMNT Vol. 4 never ended due to the purchase of Nickelodeon (it also took forever for an issue to be printed). Archie's final TMNT arc the "Forever War" forever waits in limbo for release.

Then there's Image's TMNT Vol. 3, which ran for twenty three issues (sharing continuity with Savage Dragon among other Image comics it crossed over with) before ending just as the run was nearing its end game. The run was just utter insanity with Splinter being transformed into a bat, Donatello becoming a cyborg, Leonardo losing a hand, Raphael losing an eye then becoming THE SHREDDER (then him getting into a war of the Shredders with a Lady Shredder), and Mikey. Well, Mikey got lucky amongst the four literally.

Yes, Image's TMNT was just batshit insanity, and it was great. So great in fact IDW is bringing the series back to finally end it's run. Starting May 16th, IDW will be releasing a colorized version of the comic called TMNT: Urban Legends. The original creative team for the comic, Gary Carlson (writer) and Frank Fosco (penciler) will come on to finish the final three issues (a fan-project in 2011 had two issues done up but these by the creative team won't be the issues published here). The whole news was broke via Io9 who did an interview with the original creative team and talk about returning to a comic they did twenty-two years ago!!

Here's the cover of the first issue:
