But will the publisher continue to bury books unpopular with the alt-right?

IDW Publishing Founder & CEO Ted Adams has joined the Board of Directors for The Comic Book Legal Defense Fund. The CBLDF is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting First Amendment rights. Adams joins fellow Board members Reginald Hudlin, Jennifer L. Holm, Paul Levitz, Larry Marder, Jeff Smith, Jeff Abraham, Dale Cendali, Milton Griepp, Katherine Kelle, Christina Merkler, and Chris Powell.

In a statement, Adams said:

"The freedoms we have because of the First Amendment can only survive if everyone knows and understands their rights, and if we're willing to fight to keep them. I've long admired the work the CBLDF does to achieve those principles. My goal is to help the office team and Board continue to educate the comics community about their rights and to be there to defend those rights whenever and wherever necessary."

Someone whose defense Adams wouldn't come to though is former G.I. Joe writer Aubrey Sitterson, who came under fire from the alt-right last September after tweeting about 9/11. Neither Adams nor the CBLDF came to Sitterson's defense of his right to free speech. Facing backlash, IDW failed to promote Sitterson's followup Scarlett's Strike Force and cancelled it after three issues citing poor sales.

Here's to Adams helping "bolster the organization's efforts to protect First Amendment rights of readers, creators, librarians, retailers, publishers, and educators who face the threat of censorship."
