Dave Stevens' 1982 comic character, Rocketeer, is headed to the small screen in 2019. The original comic is an homage to the Saturday movie serial shows like Commander Cody from the early-mid 20th century. It chronicles the adventures of stunt pilot Cliff Secord who finds a mysterious jetpack and becomes the Rocketeer. Disney made a live-action movie based on the comic titled The Rocketeer in 1991, starring Billy Campbell.
Well, Disney isn't done with the character concept and will use the title in a new animated series in 2019, for young children. It will air on Disney Jr which aims at kids 8 or younger. Here's how the new The Rocketeer series is described:
The upcoming series will introduce a new Rocketeer: Kit, a young girl who receives a surprise package on her birthday revealing that she's next in line to become the Rocketeer—a legendary superhero who has the ability to fly with the help of a rocket-powered jet pack. Kit's gadget-minded best friend, Tesh, and her airplane mechanic uncle, Ambrose, are alongside Kit as she soars to new heights, using her cool new gear (and a secret identity) to help her save the day.
Each episode will have two 11-minute stories in them with an original song in each. It's unknown if the series will retain the retro feel of the original. Certainly some… elements will be changed…
