Nick Spencer Will Give The 'Amazing Spider-Man' A Fresh Start

Hail Hydra!

Marvel's "fresh start" announcements keep on coming. Today's big announcement involves Spider-Man, whose current writer is moving on to fill Bendis' shoes on Iron Man. So who will be taking the reins on Marvel's flagship hero? Well, the man who previously wrote Marvel's flag-wearing hero, Nick Spencer. Yes, Spencer of Secret Empire fame, will be giving 'ol Spidey a fresh start.

Spencer's plans for the title are somewhat vague, though he is planning "back to basics" stories:

"I think that a lot of what I'll be doing is reconnecting Peter with some very classic, quintessential elements of the story that fans and readers are going to recognize"

This includes the Parker luck:

"The best Spider-Man, his personal [trouble] is mirroring his troubles in costume, and the two stories are feeding each other and being Spider-Man always comes with considerable costs to Peter" … "It's always getting in the way of his life. So, to me, it's kind of a dance between those two things at this stage."

Marvel.com gave slightly more information about the first issue of the new series:

"An alien invasion attacks New York City and the only one who can stop it is…Spider-Man?! But that’s far from all you’ll find here—a revelation from the past puts Peter Parker’s job, relationships, and whole life in jeopardy! And if even that’s not enough, you’ll see a new roommate, new love interests, and a new villain!"

We're hoping for less Hydra and more Superior Foes of Spider-Man, which was a great title by Spencer. There is some hope as it looks like Superior Foes' Boomerang will be appearing in the new series.

Joining Spencer on the title will be Invincible artist Ryan Ottley. He'll be teaming up with inker Cliff Rathburn, and colorist Laura Martin.
