Marvel's "fresh start" initiative was announced as a way to temporarily boost sales bring in new readers with new series, new creative teams, and new stories. It sounded good on paper at least.
Deadpool #1 will launch from longtime Marvel creators Skottie Young and Nic Klein. Young is best known for his writer on Rocket and for the thousand of variant covers featuring baby versions of Marvel characters. Klein is best known for his work on Captain America, Secret Avengers, and New Warriors.
Young talked to Polygon about how he had to settle for Rocket after being denied Deadpool.
"Before I pitched Rocket Raccoon back in 2013, I tried to get Deadpool. haha," Young wrote to Polygon, "But he was spoken for so I said 'well, i can kind of have a similar vibe for Rocket, just cleaned up a bit.' So my head was already in that place."
