Studio 8, the production company behind Alpha and Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk, has hired Seith Mann to adapt a film version of the Black Mask comic Black, which explores the idea of what if only black people had superpowers. Mann's credits include co-creating The Breaks and directing episodes of The Walking Dead, Fringe, and Californication.

The series comes from co-creator/writer Kwanza Osajyefo, co-creator/designer Tim Smith 3, artist Jamal Igle, and cover artist Khary Randolph. Osajyefo and Smith 3 will both executive produce alongside Black Mask's Matt Pizzolo. Both the main series Black and the follow up series BLACK [AF]: America's Sweetheart, which features a female lead, are to be adapted into a film franchise.

April 25 sees the launch of the mini-series BLACK [AF]: Widows And Orphans about two of the series' characters hunting down traffickers of empowered black children.
